How CFL Standings Work

CFL teams earn two points for a win and one for a tie, so the table is ranked by points rather than win percentage. Each team plays 18 regular season games across 21 weeks, with three bye weeks. The top three teams in each division reach the playoffs: first place earns a bye straight to the Division Final, while second place hosts third place in the Division Semi-Final.

The crossover rule can change that. If the fourth place team in one division finishes with more points than the third place team in the other division, it crosses over and takes that playoff spot instead. Equal points means no crossover, so the third place team keeps its place.

FAQ

How are CFL standings points calculated?

Two points for a win, one for a tie, zero for a loss. Teams are ranked by points, then by the official tiebreakers starting with wins and head-to-head results.

How many CFL teams make the playoffs?

Six of nine: the top three in each division. The division winner gets a bye to the Division Final, and second hosts third in the Semi-Final.

What is the CFL crossover rule?

If the fourth-place team in one division has more points than the third-place team in the other division, it crosses over and takes that playoff spot (a tie in points goes to the third-place team).

What do x, y and e mean in the standings?

x = clinched a playoff spot, y = clinched first place and the bye, e = eliminated from playoff contention.

Who leads the CFL standings in 2026?

Montreal Alouettes currently lead the league in points. The table above updates after every game.

How often are these standings updated?

Standings refresh automatically within minutes of each final score, with several extra checks a day for corrections.
