How the Lions Got Here

BC spent most of the season in the top two of the West and clinched a playoff spot on Thanksgiving weekend. A three-game winning run in late September and early October, including a 31-24 home win over Saskatchewan on September 25, looked like it would carry the Lions in. Instead they finished with two straight defeats: 32-13 in Calgary on October 17 and a 34-10 home loss to Winnipeg in the regular season finale. Second place survived only on the tiebreaker.

The Lions scored 516 points and allowed 484. They went 6-3 in their home games, two of which were played at the Apple Bowl in Kelowna, and 4-5 on the road.

How the Roughriders Got Here

Saskatchewan’s season split cleanly in two. The Riders started 6-2, then lost their way through September and early October, including a 37-31 home loss to Calgary that would have clinched a spot and a 44-24 defeat in Montreal on Thanksgiving Monday. With the playoff race down to three teams for two places, they won their last two at Mosaic Stadium, 16-12 over Montreal and 16-9 over first-place Edmonton, to finish third.

The Riders were 7-3 at home but only 3-5 on the road this season, and that road record is the number to watch on Saturday. They scored 486 points and allowed 473.
